A 24-year-old DJ named Kai Roberts from Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, is currently in a medically induced coma following a severe head injury sustained in a quad bike accident while working in Zante, Greece. The incident occurred on Sunday when the quad bike, on which Roberts was a passenger, collided with a wall on a coastal road. His friend, who was driving the quad bike, suffered only minor injuries. After the accident, Roberts was taken to a local hospital but had to be airlifted to Ioannina University Hospital on the Greek mainland due to the severity of his condition. His family, upon hearing about his injuries, quickly arranged to fly to Greece for support, facing challenges in obtaining timely medical information about his condition due to regulations on sharing details over the phone.

Roberts' brother, Corey, expressed the family's emotional turmoil upon learning about the brain bleed detected in a CT scan, describing Kai as a beloved figure who is known for his vibrant personality and infectious smile. Kai had been pursuing his passion for music by DJing on the island, having taken unpaid leave from his job at a dairy factory to follow this dream. His girlfriend, Kya Gillane-Heywood, highlighted that this opportunity was significant for his career, as he was performing alongside notable DJs. In response to the situation, she has initiated a fundraising campaign to assist the family with travel, accommodation, and medical expenses, which has already raised nearly £6,000. Additionally, a fundraising event is planned by Pure West Radio, where Roberts hosts a music show, to further support him and his family during this difficult time.

A DJ is in a coma after suffering a serious head injury in a quad bike accident in Greece. Kai Roberts, 24, from Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, was working in Zante when a quad bike he was on hit a wall on Sunday. His brother Corey Roberts, 18, flew to Greece with his family in the early hours on Monday morning. "We heard about the bleed on the brain, following the CT scan, that's when we were all in bits, and we booked flights out to Greece," he said. "My brother is my idol. "Everyone loves him. He's well known and everywhere he goes, everyone loves him. He's just a massive character. He's got the biggest smile in the room." He said his brother was a passenger on the bike, which was being ridden by his friend, when it struck a wall on a coastal road on Sunday afternoon. His friend was treated for minor injuries after the incident. Kai was initially taken to the general hospital in Zante after waiting an hour for the ambulance, but had to be flown to the Greek mainland. He is currently in a medically induced coma at Ioannina University Hospital, where his condition is being monitored, his family said. Mr Roberts said the family had difficulty understanding the extent of his injuries, because of challenges around sharing medical information. "We got told they weren't allowed to say anything over the telephone," he said. "We didn't know how he was for ages because we couldn't speak over the phone. It should be an exception if you are in a different country." Kai, who works in a diary factory, spent nearly a month in June working as a DJ on the island, and had been due to travel home on 1 July. His girlfriend Kya Gillane-Heywood, 20, said Kai had been living his dream. "He came out and left his job on unpaid leave. He was DJing, and supporting (DJs) Nathan Dawe, Tom Zanetti, and Freddie Lineker at a nightclub in Zante," she said. "I've never seen him so happy with this chance. It was massive for his career. It was going really well. They wanted him back next year. Everyone just loved him." She has set up a fundraising page to raise funds to support his family with travel, accommodation and medical expenses. It has raised nearly £6,000. Pure West Radio in Haverfordwest, where Mr Roberts hosts a music show, is holding a fundraising event across multiple venues on Saturday 26 July to help raise funds.
