A man has been charged with the murder of a charity worker who was found stabbed in her home after a gas explosion.
Clifton George, 44, was arrested after Annabel Rook was found with stab wounds in Dumont Road, Stoke Newington, north London, shortly before 5am on Tuesday.
The Metropolitan police had said on Tuesday it was believed Rook’s death was “a domestic-related incident”.
Rook, 46, was a respected community worker who helped vulnerable women flee gender-based violence. She co-founded the charity MamaSuze , which supports refugee and migrant women with art and drama activities.
In a tribute, the organisation had said it was “devastated” by Rook’s death, adding that she treated everyone with “warmth and kindness”.
Speaking after the charge on Monday, acting DCS Brittany Clarke said: “Our thoughts continue to remain with the family and friends of Annabel as they navigate this devastating loss.
“We ask that the public refrain from speculation and respect their privacy at this time, and we thank the Hackney community for their ongoing support.”
