Steve Parish has made it clear that his FA Cup-winning manager, Oliver Glasner, will be atCrystal Palacenext season. Tottenham are prominent among Glasner’s admirers and they will put him on their shortlist if they decide to part company with Ange Postecoglou at the end of the season. Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are also interested in the man who led Palace past Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday to the club’s first major trophy.
Parish, the Palace chair and co-owner, said he wanted to extend Glasner’s contract, which is scheduled to expire in June 2026. As Parish continued to savour the cup win that will bring Europa League football to Selhurst Park next season, materially changing his club as a proposition, he essentially told those who might try to lure Glasner away that they were wasting their time.
“He will stay here. For some period of time,” Parish insisted. “I am trying to live in the moment. What happens down the track, summer transfer window, players … it’s for tomorrow. But he’ll be here next year and then we’ll take it from there.
“Everybody knows the length of Oliver’s contract. Beyond that we’ll have to talk. We want to try and extend his contract. But it needs to be right for everybody and today is not a time to think about it.”
“We have been talking about it,” Parish added. “For Oliver, it’s not about the things that maybe people think it’s about. Oliver wants to be part of something that’s going in a direction, same with all of us. I think that’s what we’ll talk about. Before finals, it’s not a time for all of that. After finals is probably not a time for that. But somewhere down the track we’ll have a conversation and see what we all feel.”
Glasner joined Palace in February of last year, winning seven and drawing three of 13 matches to steer the club to a record-equalling 10th-placed Premier League finish with a record-equalling 49 points. He was a target for Bayern Munich during the summer only for Parish to fend off the German giants.
This season, despite a poor start, Glasner again has Palace on 49 points with two games to play, the first at home to Wolves on Tuesday. They are 12. TheFA Cupis Glasner’s second major trophy as a manager after the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022.
“We know it’ll be a challenge to play [European football on] Thursday nights and league football next season,” Parish said. “We have got to work with the manager to use his knowledge and his experience [of that] and try and plan so we have a squad that copes. We are not going to lose our minds but we are going to take advantage of the situation and be positive and see what we can achieve.
“It’s performances and it’s the fans, as well. You don’t get many fans like ours, that are so supportive all the time – 99.9% of them. That means a lot to the players. They know they’re coming into a good environment, a stable environment. Add on Europe and it’s a big plus.”
Parish revealed that Marc Guéhi, who was forced off in the 61st minute of the final with an eye injury, was taken to hospital for checks after the on-field celebrations. The Palace captain was shaken up after taking a ball to the face. He was given the all-clear to return home on Saturday night.
